Welcome to Class 2's Information Page
Mrs Cosgrove
Year 2
Class 2 is a happy and supportive place to learn. We are in Year 1 and 2 and our teacher is Mrs Cosgrove. Mrs Liddell is our LSA. We work in Class 2 every morning and join Class 1 in the afternoon.
How we learn:
In Class 2 we begin the day with a Phonics session. We learn new graphemes and phonemes and practise reading ‘tricky’ words that are not decodable. We have four Reading, four Writing and five Maths sessions per week. In these lessons, we use a mixture of whole class input, group work with an adult and independent work. There are always resources available to help us with our learning and we make learning prompts to display on our Working Walls. We use continuous provision to challenge ourselves and consolidate our learning. This encourages us to think creatively and really enjoy our learning!
We cover all of the wider curriculum subjects with Mrs Rookyard in Class 1 every afternoon. These sessions usually involve a whole class input followed by an independent challenge for us to complete. We love to use books to inspire our learning, and we use many practical resources to support our understanding of key concepts.
We also use continuous provision within Class 1 classroom and outdoor area. The classroom is set up with a range of different areas, including the Studio Area, Small World Area, Role Play Area, Construction Area, Reading Area and Calm Corner. When it is Discovery Time, we can access and explore these different areas. We can choose activities based on our interests, work collaboratively with our friends and consolidate previously learnt skills. The adults in our class enjoy working with us during Discovery Time, observing our learning and helping us to challenge ourselves further.
We use Seesaw in lessons to record our practical learning (e.g. using resources to show how we have partitioned two-digit numbers in Maths). We also record our independent learning from Discovery Time on Seesaw, which allows us to share our work with the adults as well as to reflect on what we have learnt.
Homework
Our homework is set each half term in a homework grid. This contains a range of activities based on our learning in a range of subjects. We can choose the activities that we want to work on. We have a special sharing session where we can bring in our work to show our friends.
Reading is also very important to us in Class 2. Each week, we have two Reading sessions where we read a decodable Phonics book. This is linked to what we have learnt in our Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics lessons. We are working hard on our fluency, so we practise reading each book several times. We bring the books home so that we can continue to practise and share our brilliant learning at home! We also bring home a list of the sounds, words and sentences we have been working on each week in Phonics, so that we can practise more at home. Once a week choose our own ‘reading for pleasure’ book from the school library that we can bring home and share with our family.
General Notices
Our PE day is Wednesday. Earrings need to be removed for PE and long hair needs to be tied up.
Please make sure that all items (bags, bottles, jumpers…) are named, so that we can easily reunite any missing items with their owners!
